Southern Lord To Unleash DOPESMOKER Deluxe Reissue

News of almighty proportions has landed as Southern Lord announce a deluxe reissue of one of the towering achievements in metal history, Dopesmoker by SLEEP.

For the 2012 reissue, there are some very notable changes. The original studio tapes have been remastered presenting the album as the band had originally intended. The audio is clearer, louder, and at last brings a true representation of SLEEP's hour-plus Weedian chronicle. Exclusive to this Southern Lord edition is brand new artwork by long time SLEEP artist Arik Roper, to be unveiled in the coming weeks. Additionally, this reborn version of Dopesmoker boasts an unreleased live recording of one of the band's best all-time performances: "Holy Mountain" from San Francisco's I-Beam in 1994.

Southern Lord is overwhelmingly ecstatic to reissue one of the most important recordings in heavy metal history. This edition ensures that this mesmerizing, incredibly complex document remains unrivaled in the annals of stoner metal.

Dopesmoker Track Listing:

1. Dopesmoker 1:03:31
2. Holy Mountain (Live @ the I-Beam SF, CA. 1994) 11:54

BABY WOODROSE Reissued

On October 23rd Bad Afro Records will re-issue the Baby Woodrose album Love Comes Down. For many people this can be considered the “lost” Baby Woodrose album. It was originally released in 2006 and followed the succesful Money For Soul album. At the time Love Comes Down was only released in Scandinavia and not many people outside here ever got the chance to hear it. Which is a shame as it contains a great mix of pretty straight forward garage rockers mixed with beautiful moodier stuff. The vinyl version was only released in 500 copies which makes it the most rare Baby Woodrose LP to date.

But that will change now when Bad Afro will release it again – this time with extra material included. The 1st press of 500 copies on black vinyl will include a free 7” single on 33 1/3 rpm with two exclusive songs recorded at the same sessions as Love Comes Down. We are talking two hard stoner rock songs called Cheery Bomb and The Keeper that together clocks in at more than 12 minutes. Guest appearances Eduardo Martinez (The Flaming Sideburns) and Yebo (The Tremolo Beer Gut).

Love Comes Down featured the original Baby Woodrose line-up: Lorenzo Woodrose on guitar/vocals, Fuzz Daddy on drums and The Moody Guru on bass (the two last mentioned also play with Lorenzo in Dragontears and Spids Nøgenhat these days).

POOBAH Supports Let Me In Re-Issue By Pounding the Pavement‏

Jim Gustafson will be leading Poobah down the rock n’ roll highway in support of the re-issue of Let Me In (Ripple Music) throughout the rest of 2010 and well into 2011. With the first pressing of the album almost sold out, Gustafson is doing what all musicians should be doing to generate greater support for the record by working the only way that he knows how . . . playing the stuff live!

“It is deep in my blood to keep doing what I love, and after decades of playing in bands, it still excites me to perform,” explains Gustafson when asked what keeps him going after all this time, “I have a passionate love for playing guitar, singing, and writing songs. That’s what has driven me on. I am still inspired to be the best I can be.”

It’s remarkable that in an industry notorious for chewing up and spitting out the weak that this musician, without the commercial success of his peers, is still going after forty years. With ten albums, thousands of live performances, and countless boxes of unreleased material under his belt, Jim Gustafson is celebrating a life-long career with Poobah by bringing the party to as many who’ll take the time to listen. Over the course of four decades, Poobah has shared stages and hobnobbed with the likes of The Who, Canned Heat, Judas Priest, and ZZ Top to name but a few, and Gustafson has the unlikely distinction of performing at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame more than any other artist.

Dark Descent Records to Release TOXAEMIA Discography

Dark Descent Records has just completed a deal to release the complete CD discography from classic Swedeath metallers Toxaemia. Tentatively set for a January/February 2001 release, the CD will contain everything every released by the band, including Kaleidoscopic Lunacy, the Buried to Rot demos and the Beyond the Realm EP (released by Seraphic Decay), as well as previously unreleased material recorded during the Buried to Rot sessions.

In all, 17 songs spanning over 65 minutes of classic-era, skull-crushing Swedish death metal! The material will be sourced off of the original master tapes and remixed/remastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound Studio. The release will also contain a bonus disc which features all of the band's recordings in their original, untouched state.

Toxaemia History (from Seraphicdecay.com) Toxaemia was formed by longtime friends Pontus Cervin, Emil Norrman and Stevo Bolgakov. In their first lineup, Emil played Guitar and a friend Brun was supposed to play the drums, with Stevo on guitar and Pontus on the bass. It became evident that Brun was not a natural drummer and Emil steeped in to do the drums. Brun took on the vocal role. They called themselves O.S.S Brun was later replaced by Holma, who also wrote the lyrics. At this point the band had various name changes including Mutilator and then Anguish. New material was written and heavy rehearsing began. This led to the recording of a rehearsal tape in September 1989 called Deadly Coronations. After this it was not long before it was agreed that Holma would leave the vocals to Stevo and a new member Linus Olzon was recruited. This line up would become Toxaemia.
